Re: Belgian 297-230.

Martin,You can get brass and bullets from Buffalo Arms in the US. I haven't figured out what to use as a load yet. It doesn't hold much powder, whatever you pick.Cheers,Michael

Re: Belgian 297-230.

The following is from an article written years ago on the Morris rounds. The authors found that primer selection was critical, since it would be contributing a fair amount to the overall power. They...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

Hi all, I had a look at buffalo arms last night,if they still ship to Aus. and I can get all the permits from customs and the police I'll place an order. That load data is interesting, I'm just...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

I've never seen a split case and can't conceive of anything other than very brittle brass being the cause....there just isn't that much pressure. On the cork wad or Pufflon, it is for protection of...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

The age of my examples suggest that they may be old enough to be mercuric primed. Even unfired, mercury has been reported to amalgamate into the cartridge case. Replacing the unfired primers would not...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

CH/4D dies for the 297/230 are 1/3 the cost of RCBS dies. I use 40gr soft cast lead bullets, Buffalo arms cases formed from 22 Hornet and Trail Boss powder. I hate to recommend loads, but will suggest...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

Have you checked your chamber to determine what cartridge you should be using. Some of those Aussie cadets were chambered to shoot a magnum version of the Morris 297/230 If you try to shoot the...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

Hi all, I think I have made a bit of a blunder here, the rifle in the original question is chambered for and fires 297-230 without any problems, but the vic. gov cadet I mentioned that was spliting...

Your blunder just makes our life more interesting ! I once bought what I thought was a .300 Sherwood small action Martini, that turned out to be in .360 No5 caliber. I was a bit surprised to say the...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

320-230 is a new one to me[not that thats saying much], I'll have to look it up,but if 320. stands for .32 callibre it wouldn't fit in mine, the measurement at the muzzle is .2205 and .2295 depending...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

It's a new one on me too, but the name refers to the case/bore sizes. The 32 Long Colt shortened (probably) and perhaps rim thinned a tiny bit, then necked down for the 230 (22) bullet.Like the Morris...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

Mash. If it is the cadet that is splitting the Morris long cases then do check your chamber. The story I heard [probably a myth] was that the Victorian Government was supplied with about a zillion...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

I know nothing of these rifles and rounds but cast bullet engineering in OZ does a mould for a .22 with multiple cavities they also customise so maybe they could make one for these in the healed form?...

Re: Belgian 297-230.

This may sound silly but the .297/230 that splits cases has not been rechambered for .22 Hornet has it. I have seen one recently done lke that. TJ

Re: Belgian 297-230.

Seems to me that you could get essentially the same result by partially sizing your basic brass, not putting back the shoulder to the standard length. But you would of course have to start from basic...
